Today we did some painting with sticks dipped in ink and pens and oil pastels attached to sticks. We used sticks of a variety of different widths and shapes to create different marks. The exercise was designed to get us to use our shoulders when drawing. We were also specifically exploring the form of objects.
On the left there are some experiments in my sketchbook. I had lots of fun splashing my book, even if the inks I had make it look like I had a food fight with curry sauce involved.
The article I chose to draw was a bit metal lantern thing which I hung from the ceiling with string. Although a hazard to the unobservant, it was easier to study the shapes that way, even if it span every time someone walked past.
We put backgrounds on the images, looking at negative space. I think that makes it look more interesting compared to the images below. The drawings are defiantly free-er but I think it looks better as I get more accurate as time goes on.
These are the first images I did. I like the paint-splattery-ness of them, but I think that the images look better with a background.
What I enjoyed the most was when the ink ran, and I spritzed it with water to make it run more.
I took these pictures at college because we will be doing more to them. I hope that makes them look better, as currently they are a bit of a mess rather than coherent images.
That is why the photos are a bit slapdash (you can see Rosemary's [here is her blog; http://rosemaryjonesgroup4.blogspot.co.uk/, it makes a hell of a lot more sense than mine!] work invade my picture on the bottom left ).
