Transparent layering

Today we had a demonstration on layering white to creat a transparent inside image. I had the idea to draw faces or bodies, then layer over them until you couldn't see the drawings. Stupidly I forgot to photograph my drawings pre-layering, but here is the end results.

The first one is A1 and the other two A3. I think I overdid the layering, as my under drawings are now pretty pointless. I like the textures though, particularly the scrim fabric. I may use these as a base for more drawings.
Thats all.
P.s. 1000 blog views, which feels like a milestone. Thank you.

Transparent heads

I started off today experimenting with putting transparent burquas on models.

This went rather well, it is visually interesting. I then tried to make a 3d version. My first attempt gave the impression that I was trying to give the head model spaghetti hair.

My second attempt was a pinned net which looked better, but was unwearable.

I tried to turn this into a web. This gave a trapped impression and looked spidery.

Cutting this off created a limp net, which was possibly wearable, but not taunt nought to give the severe impression I was hoping to creat.

Hanging this up though made a lovely spider web-ish mess.

And thats my day today.

Webs

We are rarely set a task we all have to do and this was one of those rare times. We all had to weave a structure round a section of something. Most people were ambitious and chose their desk or the wall or something similar.I was rather less big minded and wove the bottom of my chair, mainly because then I wouldn't have to take it off again.
These are the results.

I am quite happy, I went for extremely spider, a bit gothic and I think it has worked well. I wish some of the threads hadn't gone lose but I cant figure out how to avoid it, so oh well. Here's to hoping it lasts.

New project- Transparent

I started out this project by looking at the artist suggested. I am particularly drawn to Maurizio Anzeris's obscured faces.
I find it interesting how you can just about see the faces. This got me thinking about news pixilatting out peoples faces.

The naturally lead me to Banksys amusing Cardinal Sin.

I then came across these on pintrest.

They are mothers (and occasionally fathers) in the Victorian era trying to keep their children still in photographs. I found it interesting how the adult is trying to be transparent.
It reminded me of the witty art of Boushra Almutawakel.

She seemed to be commenting on how the full veil makes her feel transparent.
This has got me thinking about the veil, and masks. Hiding and trying to be transparent while doing so.
Thats were I am going at the moment.

End of Document projects

I had absolutely no idea as to what I wed going to do when I walked into the studio. Then I saw an old table destined for the skip. This got me thinking about making a culture of connected leaves, similar Tony metal one I posted last time, but with more leaves.
I ended up not using the table as it was too destroyed. I had already cut out loads of leaves in different papers, so now I sewed the mane line of the skeleton into them and attached them to a metal structure.

If I had more time I would have made it denser in some areas to give a structure and possibly thought aboUT the types of leaves. In an ideal world I would have liked to creat a big maze of there leaves so people could walk through them. That would be fun.

More to come.

Back to work

Sorry for the long winter break. I confess I didn't do too much work over Christmas. I was feeling a bit of a lack of inspiration. So I decided to go on another walk to see if I could think of anything.
I drew around leaves and did a bit more collecting.

This made me think of my prints, so I picked up a leaf and decided to print it repetitively.

I the reapplied my maps idea to it in a simpler way.

This lead to me,once back at college, trying to recreate a 3D version.

I think if I had done the attachments with wire it may have worked better as I could have had wavy lines.
And that sums up my productivity.
